The opening of the 56th theatrical season of the State Academic Dance Theater awaits the residents of Almaty and guests of the city on September 13th at 7:00 PM on the grand stage of the Almaty Theatre. This date has been chosen intentionally for over half a century, as it marks the birthday of a Ballet Legend, choreographer, and ballet master, People's Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Bulat Ayukhanov, who would have turned 85 on this day. The theatrical season will kick off with an "Evening of Ballet," where artists from the Dance Theater and invited soloists from the Abay Opera House, Astana Opera, Astana Ballet, "Saltanat" and "Gulder" ensembles, the "Samruk" contemporary dance theater, students from the Selzniov Arts School and the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography will share the stage, presenting excerpts from well-known ballet productions. The program of the "Evening of Ballet" will be adorned with the most vibrant choreographic compositions by Bulat Ayukhanov and other choreographers.

Therefore, each number in the concert program is symbolic and carries its message to the audience. For example, a piece set to the music of C. Saint-Saëns, 'The Artist and the Swan,' will be performed by the leading soloists of our ballet troupe. The inspiration for this performance came from the words of an ancient Japanese artist, 'If you want to paint a bird, become the bird yourself.' Bulat Ayukhanov, as an artistic director, ballet master, and teacher, created a highly professional ensemble that is notable for its creative diversity in existing and planned productions. It's worth noting that each production firmly establishes itself in the repertoire, nurturing both the older and younger generations of ballet artists. Therefore, in selecting the program, we pay tribute to the classics, which are the hallmark of our theater: 'Carmen Suite' by J. Bizet and the immortal 'Bolero' by M. Ravel, which Bulat Ayukhanov himself performed in his time. Another piece, specially choreographed by the Dance Theater as a tribute to its Teacher and Mentor, will be performed by the leading ballet soloists Gulnar Kamalova and Alimurat Salikhov to the song 'Mon Dieu' by Edith Piaf," shared the Head of the Ballet Troupe, Honored Worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Gulfida Gafurova.

Bulat Ayukhanov created concert programs, one-act and two-act ballets, effectively making the theater a chamber ballet company. The troupe consists of about 40 soloists, but there is no corps de ballet in the traditional sense. Each soloist has their own concert repertoire, tailored to their artistic individuality, and this is how all ballet numbers came into being. The diversity of the repertoire is also driven by the demands of touring companies - to create new choreographic works that reflect the creative directions of the ensemble.

"In this new 56th theatrical season, we continue the legacy and creative path of the founder of the Dance Theater and the great choreographer, Bulat Ayukhanov. In the repertoire, we have about 30 ballet titles and several extensive thematic concert programs that need to be presented on a modern stage, providing the opportunity to showcase all of the theater's programs in full artistic, sound, stage, and lighting design. Therefore, we continue to work on the 'Performance in Projection' project. Currently, we are actively working on archival materials and video programs in which Bulat Gazizovich participated. The Dance Theater has decided to create a Memorial Museum within the theater's walls, where we are currently based. The museum will display the artist's costumes, photographs from performances, his quotes, and the book published by B. Ayukhanov. One of the planned premieres of this season will be the production 'The Legend of the Tulip,' and we are also working on the restoration of ballet productions 'Hamlet' and 'Mankurt,' which will be presented to the audience soon," said the Director of the Dance Theater, Tair Karataev.
